Everest base camp and Gogkyo Lake is a combine of Everest Base Camp with Gokyo Valley. For this route you will cross famous passes Cho La (5420m) and includes two peaks climb Kala Patthar (5,545m) and Gokyo Ri (5,357m). It is one of the most challenging routes in the Everest region along the Everest base camp trekking.

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,350 m)

    Upon your arrival at the Kathmandu airport, you will be greeted by a representative from Thai Nepal Travels. After picking up your luggage and look for our representative with a Thai Nepal Travels display board at the arrival gate. After that, you will be transferred to Hotel. After check-in, you can take a rest, hang around in the city - it all depends on your interests and condition.

  • Day 2: Fly to Lukla, trek to Phakding (2,651 m/40 minutes flight) 3 - 4 hours trek

    After breakfast, we take about 40 minutes flight to Lukla (2,800m), in the Khumbu region of Eastern Nepal. We will reach the Tenzing-Hillary Airport at Lukla. Today we only have a short hike to start our trek through the prosperous village of Lukla until we reach Phakding.We stay overnight at Phakding.

  • Day 3: Namche Bazaar (3,438 m) 5 - 6 hours

    We are walking through a Rhododendron and beautiful pine forest. We come to the check post and entrance to Sagarmatha Nation Park. We pass through the last village of Jorsale (Thumbug; 2830m) the last settlement before Namche Bazaar a gateway to Mt. Everest and main trading Centre of this region. We stay overnight in Namche Bazaar.

  • Day 4: Acclimatization Day - Namche Bazaar (3,440 m)

    Namche Bazaar is the main center of the Everest (Khumbu) region. Our guides will take us to the Tourist Visitor Center near the headquarters of the Sagarmatha National Park where we can observe an assortment of things related to the first Everest ascenders, Sherpa culture and learn about the various plant and animal life of the Everest region. We also take an interesting side trip up to Khumjung, surrounded by the snowy peaks of Kongde and Thamserku and the sacred peak Khumbila, hosts a well-known monastery that houses a yeti scalp. After having lunch and spending some time in Khumjung, we walk back down to Namche Bazaar and overnight in Namche Bazaar.

  • Day 5: Tengboche (3,860 m) 5 - 6 hours

    Today we start our trek towards Tengboche follows on the gradual trail with few ups and downs overlooking a magnificent view of the great Himalaya. The trail goes gradually down up to Kayangjuma. The path eventually reaches Sansa, which is the major trail junction to Gokyo valley and Everest Base Camp. The track then follows through the pine forests and after we cross the prayer-flag festooned bridge over Dudh Koshi River. Upon crossing the river, we reach Phunki Thenga, a small settlement with a couple of teahouses and a small army post amidst the alpine woods. Then we then have a tough little climb that goes steeply up through the pine forests until we reach Tengboche and overnight here.

  • Day 6: Dingboche (4,360 m) 5 - 6 hours

    After breakfast, we go north to Pheriche or take the eastward trail beneath the towering north face of Ama Dablam. From here onwards the walk is fairly moderate as we enter the Imja Valley. The valley ahead will begin to open up as we approach the confluence of the Lobuche River. Then after the confluence, we descend into the river and begin the last and steepest climb of the day up to Dingboche then we are overnight in Dingboche.

  • Day 7: Acclimatization Day - Dingboche (4,360 m)

    This day is also rest day for the proper acclimatization

  • Day 8: Lobuche (4,940 m) 5-6 hours

    Today the trek along the arid terrace is awarding with awesome views of mountains on all sides. As we come to a yak herder's place called Dusa, the valley begins to narrow and we continue through Phulung Karpo, Above Phulung Karpo is Chola Lake. As we continue our trek the majestic view of Mt. Pumori (7138 m) comes into view. As the trail descends and curves, Mt. Pumori hides and we come across a roaring stream. After crossing a small wooden bridge, we ascend to Duglha

    Then we trek up the steep terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. We find our way through the boulder-strewn slope as we ascend Chupki Lhara, an eerie ridge top with dramatic mountains views. We will find an array of stones with prayer flags used as memorials to Scott Fischer (American mountaineer) and 10-time Everest submitter Babu Chiri Sherpa (mountain guide from Nepal) who perished on a mission to climb Everest.

    Then we trek along a murmuring stream we do not see the Khumbu glacier because of its lateral moraine wall, and we now begin to feel a little out of breath due to high altitude. We are overnight in Lobuche.

  • Day 9: Gorak Shep (5170 m), visit Everest Base Camp (5364 m) 6-7 hours

    The trail to Gorak Shep we pass through the pyramid sign post. Gorak Shep was the base camp for the 1952 Swiss expedition to Everest. A small ascent would take us to Thangma Riju from where we perceive a 360-degree vista of the snowy mountains. As we reach Gorak Shep, we will be surrounded by snow-capped mountains looming all around us including the top of the world we take the trail to Everest Base Camp through the once vast Gorak Shep Lake. Continuing straight ahead, we come through the Indian army mountaineers' memorials. As we reach Everest Base Camp Mountaineers’ tents stand out in bright colors against all the dull gray surroundings after that return back to Gorak Shep for an overnight.

  • Day 10: Kala Patthar (5,545 m), then to Dzongla (4,830m) 8 - 9 hours

    We start early at dawn to catch the dramatic views from Kala Patthar witnessing the first light of day shining on Mt. Everest. During the ascent to Kala Patthar, we can pause to catch our breath at several outstanding from here, we scramble to climb the rocky outcrop near to the summit marked by cairns and prayer flags as we reach the top. On returning to Gorak Shep, we have breakfast and descend walk downhill the tail splits into two ways we chose the trail on our right. We walk through a stupa and tombstones in the distance. We cross the Chola Khola on a bridge before reaching Dzongla. The village provides great views Ama Dablam, Lobuche Mountains and we are overnight in Dzongla.

  • Day 11: Zongla - Chola-La Pass (5483 m) -Thaknak (4750 m): 5-6 hrs

    Today is the one difficult day of trekking. The Cho La pass. The final climb to the Cho La can be a little tricky as the trail curves around a crevasse. We are traverse along the edge of that mountain and then meander into Thaknak. Take the rest and overnight in Thaknak.

  • Day 12: Gokyo (4,800 m) via Ngozumpa glacier 4 - 5 hours

    Today we cross the Ngozmpa glacier. From Thaknak village we walk to the edge of the Ngozumpa glacier, which is the longest glacier in Nepal. Reaching the other side of the glacier a short distance away is the third Gokyo Lake. On the edge of this lake stands the Gokyo village we are overnight at Gokyo.

  • Day 13: Rest day in Gokyo: Climb Gokyo Ri (5357 m) tour 4th and 5th Gokyo lakes 5 - 6 hours

    This is the day of exploring the areas. We wake up early morning to Climbing to the top of Gokyo Ri is demanding as it is steep and takes about 2 to 3 hours to reach the top for 360 views including Everest and Makalu. Then we walk 3 km north of Gokyo to reach the fourth lake also called Thonak Tsho. Then continue to the 5th lake, also called Ngozumba Tsho. Then back to Gokyo and overnight in Gokyo.

  • Day 14: Machhermo (4410m.) 4-5 hours

    We trek down to Machhermo, follow the Dudh Koshi River. We see large yak pastures there reached the Machhemo village and overnight here.

  • Day 15: Namche Bazaar 4-5 hours

    We walk downhill pass through the forest covered with rhododendron, pine and local incense. Then we ascend in the steep path to Monglo and then descend gently to Khumjung. From Khumjung we walk in the flat path for some time and then descend to Namche.

  • Day 16: Lukla 6 - 7 hours

    In the morning, walk down to Lukla providing unforgettable views of the terraced landscape and river valleys below, as well as up-close perspectives of some of the world's highest mountains followed by a trip to Lukla an overnight at Lukla.

  • Day 17: Kathmandu 40 minutes flight

    In the morning, take a spectacular 40-minute flight from Lukla to Kathmandu and we will transfer to the Hotel. We can take a rest or do some souvenir shopping. If we want to explore any other areas of Kathmandu, we may do today. We will be a farewell dinner in the evening to celebrate the successful completion of our journey and overnight in Kathmandu.

  • Day 18: Final Departure

    Our Everest - Cho La - Renjo La - 18 Days comes to an end today. A representative from Thai Nepal Travels and Treks will take you to the airport approximately 2 hours before the scheduled flight. We hope you have enjoyed the tour with us, and we are sure you will be back making another trip somewhere with Thai Nepal Travels again.

Important Note: 
Your safety is of paramount concern while traveling with THAI NEPAL AND TREKS. Please note that your leader has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Every effort will be made to keep to the above itinerary; however, since this adventure entails traveling in remote mountainous regions, we cannot guarantee that we will not deviate from it. Weather conditions, the health condition of a group member, unexpected natural disasters, etc., can all contribute to changes in the itinerary. The leader will try to ensure that the trip runs according to plan, but please be prepared to be flexible if required.

For the person who cannot continue trek until the end of trekking, or come back early of trekking in case of any reason he/she please notes that there will be no refund. If the cancellation happens before the trip, we will provide you accommodation in a guesthouse in Kathmandu. In case of the flight delay/cancellation after finishing of the trek, you will be responsible for all your expenses. Please also note that you will not be entitled to any refund for the services (such as hotel, transport, flight, etc.) included in the package that you would not use later.

Please note that often the Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu flight gets delayed by a few hours or may even be canceled for one, two, or more days due to unfavorable weather conditions. Such conditions may arise even in the best seasons. Hence, in such cases, you must be prepared for long waits either at Kathmandu or Lukla airports, as this can happen either at the start or end of the trek or even both! We will do our best to avoid such delays, and arrange the next flight for you. We suggest you be prepared for possible delays/cancellations, and if possible to come with some extra buffer days (1-2 days) at the end of the trip to accommodate such delays. If everything runs smoothly and you still have a few days of your buffer days left then you may even engage yourself in optional activities which can be arranged by Thai Nepal tours upon request. The optional activities may include visiting places/landmarks of your choice, adventure sports, shopping, etc.

In case the flight delay/cancellation happens at the start of a trip and it goes so long that it disturbs your onward travel schedule, you are free to choose an alternative trip such as a trek in the Annapurna, Langtang, or any other region. If you are not interested in the alternative trip and would rather wait for your original preferred trip, you are welcome to wait in Kathmandu for as many days as it takes to get a flight to Lukla. However, please note that there will be no refund if you lose time waiting at the airport and do not take an alternative tour or you only do a short trek later due to time limitation. If the cancellation happens before the trip, we will provide you accommodation in a guesthouse in Kathmandu. In case of the flight delay/cancellation after finishing of the trek, you will be responsible for all your expenses. Please also note that you will not be entitled to any refund for the services (such as hotel, transport, flight, etc.) included in the package that you would not use later

 

Accommodations

We will be providing you at Hotel Yambu or equivalent in Kathmandu and teahouses during the trek. All accommodations are on a twin-shared basis. Single supplement will be served on request and will cost an additional.

Meals

During the trek, you can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.). Breakfast and dinner will be served from the tea-houses or from a lodge menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be served on the way to the next destination. All meals will be provided during trekking while only breakfast will be available while in Kathmandu. There will also be welcome and farewell dinners for guests.
