Tilicho Lake is the world’s highest lake in the Manang District of Nepal. There are four regions that are passed through on the trek; Lamjung, Manang, Mustang, and Myagdi. Lamjung and Myagdi of the lower elevations are both predominantly Hindu and with lush green subtropical valleys with villages and terraced farming. Manang and Mustang are of the higher elevations and are predominantly Tibetan Buddhist. From Manang we go to the mail valley to the west and trek up to the Tilicho Lake. The trek also goes through Buddhist villages and Hindu holy sites, most notably the village of Muktinath, a holy site for both Buddhists and Hindus, and Braga, one of the oldest monasteries in the region. Our trek goes counter-clockwise from Besisahar to Jomsom and reaches its summit in Thorong La (pass) at the height of 5416m. The route goes past the following mountains: Manaslu (an 8,000-plus meter peak), Langtang Himal, Annapurna II and IV, Annapurna III and Gangapurna.

The rocky trail crosses the Marshyangdi River again then follows the valley steadily uphill to Tal (1,700m), a former lakebed. Tal is the first village in the Manang district. We continue to drive through a forest of pine and fir, past the traditional village of Thanchowk to Koto, at the junction of the Nar-Phu Valley. You will get the fine views of Annapurna II (7,937m) as you approach Chame. The route crosses the Marshyangdi River again. We are overnight at Chame.
Today the trail is through a steep and narrow valley. We have our first sight of the soaring of Paungda Danda rock face, a dramatic curved rock face rising 1500m from the river. From here, we also gain excellent views of Annapurna II at the south and Pisang Peak to the northeast. We are staying in Pisang.

The tail continues to Mungji past the extraordinarily picturesque village and gompa of Bragha to nearby Manang. We are staying at Manang.

From Manang, we cross the river and continue walking on its southern side through coniferous forest. Chulu in the backdrop to keep us company. We reach to Siri Kharka and have lunch here. We overnight at Siri Kharka.
From Manang, we cross the river and continue walking on its southern side through coniferous forest. After reaching Kangsar Village we walk further up towards Siri Kharka and pass a monastery on the way. The uphill walk could be tiring but we will have Gungang Himal and Mt. Chulu in the backdrop to keep us company. While the path from Siri Kharka to Tilicho Base Camp isn’t very steep or physically strenuous, it could be exhausting as we have to walk on narrow paths in loose scree and landslide area. Our trail goes through the middle of the landslide area whereby we can see impressive rock formations along the trail. We are overnight at Tilicho Base Camp.
Tilicho Lake is a large spectacularly set lake nestled at the foot of the north face of Tilicho Peak. The Lake also holds an important place for the Hindus as this sacred lake features in one of the holiest texts of the Hindus, The Ramayana. After the initial tough, steep, switchbacked ascent, our trail continues to hug the side of the mountain in a gradual to steep incline before reaching the watershed. We retrace our step and return to Tilicho Base Camp. After breakfast, we leave Tilicho Base Camp and descend towards to Siri Kharka and overnight here.
We leave Siri Kharka and descend towards Yak Kharka. On the way, we pass Tare Gumba, a thousand-year-old monastery which is very important to the local people. We follow a rock wall out of Khangsar. After crossing the river, we ascend for a while to a plateau. Next, walk until reaching Yak Kharka. We are overnight at Yak Kharka.
It is an uphill walk to High Camp. After walking for some time we cross a suspension bridge and reach Ledar village. We ascend and pass through towering cliffs before reaching Thorong Phedi, the last village before Thorong La. On this trip we are rewarded with one of the best views of Mt. Gundang, Mt.
